What makes White Envelopes a great read is also what makes it hard to define as a book; it's like life, which is messy and wonderful at the same time. Marlee shares the experiences in her life with unflinching honesty. And while the beginning portion of the book which details the abuse she suffered is hard to get through, she never paints herself as a victim. Her strength allows her to take back her sexuality as a way to make a good life for herself and her family.There's no agenda when telling the tales with her clients. They range from hilarious to horrific to deeply touching. It also highlights the double-standards of the sex industry. Paying a person to have sex on camera is legal and art, but two consenting adults exchanging money for the same interaction is illegal. With one story, Marlee highlights how there is no protection for some of our must vulnerable citizens.Despite the serious moments, the majority of the book is a fun and quick read that definitely made me laugh! I highly recommend it, especially to anyone wanting an honest take on what it is like to be an escort. Overall, the entire book is a deeply humanizing look at the world's oldest profession.
